    Incoming 1869 (Sept 13): Entire letter from a shipping agent in St. Thomas, West Indies to New York, with US Shield and Eagle adhesive 10 c. yellowish orange added upon despatch paying the full rate to the States, a fresh adhesive tied by mute round obliterator, "NEW YORK SEP 21" cds alongside. The entire was presumably transported outside the postal system to New York, where it was given to the post office.
