Coarse engraving 1853 (Nov): 4 d. yellowish orange, Plate II, lines of background blurred, an ample to large margined used example with parts of the right neigbouring stamp adjoined, on 1855 cover to Sydney NSW, cancelled by '59' numeral obliterator of Launceston in black. Square "POST OFFICE / LAUNCESTON / 5 JU 5 1855" datestamp in red alongside, reverse with "SHIP LETTER AU 18 1855" arrival cds. 1863-71: 6 d. deep reddish mauve perf. 11½, wmk. double lined '6', a fresh and fine used example in a resonant shade, on 1870 cover to Newcastle NSW, tied by 'Oval of Bars' obliterator in black, clear and attractive "GENERAL POST OFFICE HOBART TOWN 12 AP 1870" cds in red alongside, reverse with Sdney (Apr 16) transit cds and arrival cds of the next day. Opened on two sides, an appealing cover and an interesting stamp, presumably perforated officially by Walch with the old 11.8 machine.
