    British Levant 1857 (Dec 9): Prepaid Entire letter from Manchester to Constantinople endorsed "Via Marseilles per French packet" struck with despatch (Dec. 9) and London Paid transit (Dec. 10) datestamps as well as arrival "BRITISH POST OFFICE PAID DE 22 1857 CONSTANTINOPLE" cds (Gi Z6), all in red on front. A fresh and attractive entire, mailed in the first year of the British PO in Constantinople which was opened in July 1857.

    1889 (Feb 12): Registered stationery envelope 2 d. blue bearing add. franking '80 PARAS' on 5 d.  green, die I and a marginal example of the 'EXPRESS D'ORIENT' label in dull salmon, tied by "BRITISH OFFICE CONSTANTINOPLE FE 12 89" cds. Reverse with Naumburg arrival cds's (Feb. 19).  A scarce and appealing usage. Cert. Holcombe (1990).rnNote: Sent by Antoine Doursoun of the 'Chemins de fer Orientaux' agency in Constantinople and directed to Alwin Zschiesche (1843 . 1929), one of the editors of the first German periodical in German language (1863).

    1896 (Feb 17): Stationery envelope '40 PARAS' on 2½ d. grey cancelled by "BEYROUT BRITISH POST OFFICE FE 17 96" and sent to Berlin. Reverse with Port Said transit and Berlin distribution cds (Feb. 29). Fine and fresh.
