1890c.: Stampless cover and complete letter, carried from Mecque / Mecca to Constantinople as tribute to the Sultan as Caliph, carried by thernSurre-i Hümâyûn Regiment or Surre Regiment, an institution known as Surre Emini in the Ottoman Empire, is the community that brought the money, grain and other gifts from Istanbul to Mecca and Medina as tribute to the Caliphate. The Surre-i Hümâyûn Regiment carried the gifts in a ceremonial 'Holy Carpet' march through Istanbul and Cairo (two illustrated postcards with the lot).
