    Martinique 1859: General issues, Eagle 10 c. bistre, 20 c. blue and 40 c. orange, fair to good margins all round, fresh colours, tied by 'MQE' lozenge to entire letter to Marseille, obverse with "MARTINIQUE St PIERRE 26 JANV 71" cds in black, framed PD in red and French entry mark "COLONIES FRA. ANGL. 18 FEVR. 71" in blue, reverse with Marseille arrival cds (Feb 21). An attractive cover depicting the 1865 letter rate to France.

    Martinique 1871/72: Laureated 30 c. brown and 1871 Cérès 40 c. pale orange, each with large margins all round, used on 1872 cover to Le Havre tied by MQE lozenge of dots in black. St. Pierre despatch cds at right (April 11) and circular 'Col. Fr. / Angl. Amb. Calais' cds (April 29). Paid for single rate only and found to be double ('2' at upper left in manuscript), struck with AFFRANCHISEMENT / INSUFFISANT in red and charged '7' décimes due upon receipt. A fine and scarce cover.
