    20 pa. green in vertical pair on 1869 cover to Cairo tied by superb strikes of REGIE POSTE EGIZIANE / ALESSANDRIA datestamps (May 28), matched with single 1867 1 pi. red on 1869 entire letter to Cairo tied by 'Regie removed' POSTE EGIZIANE / ALESSANDRIA datestamp (Aug 8). A delightful and scarce pair.

    Note: The offending 'Regie' was excised from the cancellation after objections by the Ottoman Sultan as it implied that the Viceroy had Royal status. The cancel was introduced in mid-1868 and was suppressed in July 1869 as can be seen from these two covers.
