Lot# 5115 - 196-201 Auction

  • Lot# : 5115 Egypt Kingdom

20 pa. blue, a vertical strip of three, heavily toned perforations, used on double weight 1866 cover to Alexandria tied by POSTE VICE-REALI EGIZIANE / CAIRO datestamps in black (March 25), with repeated strike at left. The cover was underpaid by 20 paras and struck with framed AFFRANCATURA / INSUFFICIENTE handstamp in black and charged '2½' (piastres) due in manuscript - taxed double (4 pi.) less the amount paid (1½ pi.) = 2½ pi. to pay. Reverse with Alexandria arrival cds (same day). The stamps were originally cut out on piece but re-affixed, however, despite faults, a remarkable usage.
