    1874: Stampless cover to the Italian Vice-Consul in Alexandria, with fine despatch cds of PANTELLARIA - ISOLA (Island off Sicily) and Comune handstamp, taxed on arrival with Italy 1870 Postage Due 60 c. tied by ALESSANDRIA D'EGITTO / POSTE ITALIANE cds (June 25) in black. Reverse with Trapani, Palermo and Brindisi transit cds's. Some edge wear but scarce.

    Note: Prior to the UPU, letters from Italy prepaid were carried at 40 centesemi, unpaid letters were charged 60 centesemi. Post UPU, letters were charged at double the deficiency.
