    1856 (Oct 5): Entire letter from Alexandria to Livorno, sent via Forwarding Agent's with oval FORWARDED BY MESSRS / BRIGGS & Co. cachet in black at lower left, British P.O. 'Alexandria' double ring cds in blue on reverse (Oct 6), thence via British ship to Marseille (Oct 11) and charged 18 crazie on arrival in manuscript. Scarce, illustrated in Smith on page 33.

    Note: Briggs & Co were the agents for the P & O Steamship Company, whose Overland service replaced Thomas Waghorn's Agency.
