    Russia 1872 (Oct 29): Stampless envelope to St. Petersburrg, Russia with 'via Trieste' erased at left in blue crayon, with 'Kilmore' despatch cds at left and diamond Anglo-French Accountancy marking on front 'GB/1F 62 4/10 c.' struck in red (Van Der Linden fig. 1601) struck on departure. Reverse with Melbourne cds (Oct 31), Marseille cds (Dec 24) and St. Petersburg arrival cds (Dec 17/29) in black. Manuscript rates of 16 silvergroschen on front (credit to Prussia) and violet ink rate charge on reverse of '72' kopeks due to pay. A very rare cover - the sole recorded pre-UPU cover from Victoria to Russia, illustrated in colour on page 27 of the Palmer census.
