    USA 1882 (Aug 29): Cover from Chicago to Melbourne, Australia franked by 1882 Garfield 5 c. brown (2) cancelled in black, struck with two line RETURNED / FOR POSTAGE in black. Additional 1879 Jackson 2 c. vermilion added and tied, with crayon deletion of the instructional marking in blue to make the 12 cent Trans-Pacific rate. Reverse with 'San Francisco / Cal. / Recd' (Sept 6) and Melbourne arrival cds (Oct 23).
