Singapore / Ceylon 1858 (Aug 17): Entire letter datelined inside from Singapore and endorsed at top 'via Galle', addressed to Guilford, Western Australia franked by Ceylon August 1857 1 d. turquoise-blue in a horizontal strip of five, first two stamps with re-entries, all tied by oval of diagonal bars in black. Reverse with GALLE / STEAMER LETTER DATESTAMP (Sept 10) in black. The cover, endorsed per European & Australian Steamer 'Australasian' but this ship broke down near Galle and this letter was carried by the 'Emeu' (Sept 12), arriving St. George's Sound (Oct 3) and Melbourne (Oct 9). Couple of minor file folds through the strip on second and fourth stamps but a rare entire of most attractive appearance. Cert. RPS (1999), BPA (2009).
