    1843 (Sept 15): Entire letter from Alexandria to Steyr, Austria prepaid 12 kreuzer to Trieste by sea, charged a further 12 kr. due on receipt under the new 1842 tariff for the inland journey to destination, struck with bold ALEXANDRIA straight line handstamp in black (Tchilinghirian fig. 1). Steyr arrival (Oct 9) on reverse. Superb and wonderful cover-the earliest recorded usage of this handstamp. Signed Todd AIEP.
