British East Africa Protectorate 1896/1901: Recess by De La Rue, an Imperforate Proof in grey-blue, with hand-painted Duty Plate "2½ ANNAS", on unwatermarked paper. Extremely rare, this Proof would have been removed from the De La Rue "Appendix A" proposal sheet, as the "Appendix B" sheet is still intact: this Proof being in the colour of the accepted 1 rupee value.
