    Surcharged at the Zanzibar Gazette 1895 (Sept 29): "2½" in red on 4½ a. dull violet, a single example used on 1895 "1st. Battn." crested envelope to Capt. Westropp of the 1st Manchester Regt., in Preston, tied by MOMBASA squared circle datestamp (Oct 26) in black. Reverse with Preston arrival cds (Nov 15), then readdressed to Aldershot Barracks. The cover with file fold away from the adhesive and some soiling but a rare usage of this stamp on letter with just six covers recorded.rnrnProvenance: Collection "Shivani", Spink, London, 8 May 1997, lot 174.
