    1843 (Nov 17): Prepaid entire letter to Eton, Windsor, England strick with octagonal framed "PORT / MACQUARIE / PAID" in red and oval framed "PORT MACQUARIE / ♚ / NO 17 / 1843 / NEW S. WALES" datestamp in black and rated '7 d.' in red. Oval "PAID SHIP LETTER / ♚ / SYDNEY" in red (Nov 21). Reverse with London (June 14) and Windsor cds's and charged '8d.' due in manuscript for Ship Letter. Slight soiling but strikes fine and the content exceptional.rnProvenance: Collection Brian Peace, Prestige, Melbourne, 27 July 2009, lot 1099.rnContent: "Time...has brought me to the seventh year of my banishment...my husband...has earned the confidence and good wishes of the most influential people in the District...I have been living in painful sense of dread and terror of the Aborigines, the first execution that ever took place in this part of the Colony was lately performed here upon one of their Chiefs in threats of vengence in consequence of having murdered seven unoffending English settlers, the Natives congregated in Batallions in the dead of night...the Soldiers soon dispersed the Blacks but...they will likely seek revenge of a most deadly nature. They obstinately refuse becoming converts to Christianity, they entertain an idea that after death they rise again on the third day to people some other part of this great Island."
