Italian Fieldpost during the liberation of Rome 1870 (Sept 25): Cover from the headquarters in Rome to Modena, bearing 1867 (April) Torino printing 20 c. blue, tied by clear 'Q. G. P.' obliterator in black (Sassone = R3) with matching "POSTA MILITARE ITALIANA / QUARTTIERE GENle" despatch cds in black (Sassone = R1) alongside. Reverse with indistinct Modena arrival cds and distribution cachet. Part of backflap missing, not distracting at all from the stunning rarity and historical importance of this item despatched five days after the liberation of Rome. The military headquarters had been moved from La Storta to Rome on September 20, directly after the entry of Italian troops into Rome at Porta Pia. Signed G. & A. Bolaffi; certs. A.
