    1856: Mexico District 2 r. green, a fine example, touched at base but with portion of adjoining stamp at top, used on 1 April 1857 entire letter from Mexico to Mauzé, France endorsed "voie d'Angleterre" tied by "ADMON GRAL / DE / CORREOS" handstamp in black (Schatzkes fig. 817) paying the internal rate. British P.O. VERA CRUZ cds on reverse (April 4) in black and London transit in red (May 2) where "GB / 1F 60c." accountancy marking applied. Originally rated '8' décimes due on arrival in black (for a single letter under 7½ grams), altered to '12' décimes due possibly erroneously by a clerk believing the adhesive to be American. An unusual, attractive and rare entire. Cert. Mepsi (2021).
