Lot# : 7283 Rayon I light blue
Switzerland 1851 (Aug. 1): Cover from Luzern to Cour St. Maurice, Doubs bearing Rayon II Plate B1 Type 28 from the upper left group in combination with a left marginal example of the Rayon I light blue Stone M Type 25 from the lower group, both tied by pen strikes in red, LUZERN despatch cds and French "SUISSE MAICHE" entry cds, both in red alongside. Reverse with Maîche transit cds and partial St. Maurice arrival datestamp. The Rayon II is touched at top, the Rayon I light blue is a splendid copy from the very rare 'missglückter Stein', the cover with some wear, nevertheless a most interesting and scarce usage. Cert. Kimmel (2000) SBK = CHF 7'000.rnNote: The sender paid the cover correctly for the third rayon within Switzerland but neglected that such a part payment was not accepted in the January 1850 postal treaty with France. The cover was found by the French postal authorities to have in addition double weight with "2 ports" noted on top of the cover. The sender therefore had to pay '8' décimes upon receipt as if the cover was sent without any adhesives. rnReference: Noted in Blaickner - Schweizer Auslandsfrankaturen zur Zeit der Rayon-Marken (1850-1854) as one of five known items send in the January 1850 rate which was valid until the end of 1851, when the new Swiss Franc was introduced. This is the earliest known cover in this rate.Starting bid : 3,000 CHFHammer price : not sold
