    1853: Entire letter from Paris to Santiago de Chile, endorsed "VOIE DE PANAMA" and bearing an horizontal strip of three of Napoléon imperf. 40 c. bright orange 'vif' with vibrant colour and overall good to large margins, just shaved at bottom left, each stamp tied by bold mute lozenge, despatch cds (Dec 31, 1860) and framed "P.P." in red alongside. Obverse shows "LONDON PAID" transit (Jan 1) in red and PANAMA transit cds (Jan 22) in black as well as '15' (c.) due handstamp in circle from Santiago. A superb franking paying correctly the 120 c. rate to Chile via the United Kingdom and Panama. Maury 16b.
