    1842 (June 20): Entire letter from Copiapo, Chile to Tarma, Peru endored 'via Lima', struck with superb "VAPOR PERU / P" in red with internal rate '2½' reales in manuscript to pay. The letter is addressed to Francisco de Paulla Otero, President of the Arequipa Department who had fought alongside San Martin in the liberation War of 1820-1824. Rare and particularly fine, the earliest recorded letter with a PSNC steamship marking.
