    1870 (April-May): Essay for the new ½ d. adhesive, printed in black on card (47 x 46 mm.) showing 'Grenada' Chalon Head and framed "½d." value tablet, with corner letter AE / EA and POSTAGE reading up at left and HALFPENNY reading down at right. Interestingly, the engraved impression is the size as adopted for the issued stamp with some scrolling around the frame being blacked out - the design of which was later placed near the corner letterings. Handstamped "6" at upper left and with manuscript "Messrs Perkins & Co" below in ink. An exceptional unadopted Essay: 19 different varieties were produced of which 6 are housed in the collection of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Perkins Bacon were instructed to show the value in figures at the sides.
