    1680/1853: The award winning eight frame exhibit (128 pages / 235 covers) with a superb early study of routes and rates including entire letter 1680 from Lisbon to Livorno, 1694/1734 entires to Aberdeen, Antwerp, Leyden and Amsterdam, 1795 entire with PORTVGAL entry marking to Nuremberg and 1801 strike in red; internal mail from 1801 entire to Braga with “COR° EXTRAORD / LISBOA” in black (ten known), further town markings of Lisboa, Agueda, Albufeira, Alcoentre, Aldeia Galega, Almeida, Amarante, Arcos de Valdevez, Alvaiazere, Atouguia da Baleia, Barcellos, Batalha, Beja, Braga, Bragança, Cabeceiras, Caldas, Cartaxo, Carvalhos, Castelo Branco, Chaves, Coimbra, Covilhã, Elvas, Estremoz, Evora, Faro, Feira, Figueira, Golegan, Guarda, Guimaraes, Lagoa, Lagos (one of five known), Lamego, Loulé, Mangualde, Moita,  Mortagoa, Nazareth, Oliveira de Azeméis, Ponte de Lima, Penafiel, Pezo da Regoa, Porto, Santa Comba Dão, Santarem, Santo Thyrso, Setubal, Thomar, Torres Vedras (earliest known), Trancoso, Valenca, Vianna do Castello, Vianna do Minho, Villa do Conde, Vila Nova de Famalicão, Villa Real and Viseu - in straight line or framed format in black, blue red or green with many strikes being the earliest or latest dates known, generally all are very fine strikes; thereafter with rare SEGURA registration handstamps incl. 1816 entire with Official Royal letter with SEGURA / LISBOA in black sent in the first weeks of D. João VI reign, reg’d strikes from Coimbra, Guarda in black, blue and in red, Ponte de Barca in red (earliest known), oval Lisbon in blue and in red, Villa Franca de Xira in blue (in use for ten months), Leiria in blue; “Emendouse.O.Porte” rate inspector’s markings from Lisbon and Porto; study of the FRANCA straight line or framed handstamps (7); Overseas mail with entires to/from Brazil, Estonia, France, Germany, GB, Italy, Latvia, Netherlands, USA, Uruguay; further study of mail from Madeira; Angra, Ponta Delgada (Ilhas) and Sao Miguel in the Azores; a study of British Packets from 1800 to 1850 with ‘P.BRIT’ handstamps etc., fine framed GIBRALTAR noted, Mail carried by other Foreign ships with “C. Est de N.” handstamps, 1813 entire from Brazil with COR° MARITIMO in black etc. A truly exceptional collection beautifully displayed in choice condition. Viewing is a pleasure.
