    International Postal Connections to Europe - Italy 1870 (Dec 24): Entire letter at double rate from Smirna to Messina, endorsed "via Brindisi", franked with 1867 3 s. green in a vertical pair and 25 s. lilac, two examples, tied by "LLOYD AGENZIE SMIRNE 24/12" cds in black (Tranmer fig. 8) with "P.D." alongside. Reverse with Brindisi and Napoli transit and Messina arrival cds (Jan 2 1871). A fine cover, illustrated and discussed in 'Die Österreichische Post in der Levante' on page 417.
