    1881 (March 23): 2½ d. blue, Plate 22, wmk. Crown, lettered QH-QI, a horizontal pair used on 1884 cover tto Basil Chamberlain in Tokyo, Japan tied by 'London / W29' duplex in black (March 7). Reverse with 'Yokohama / *' circular datestamp of entry (May 11) in black. An attractive cover to an unusual destination.rnNote: Basil Hall Chamberlain (1850-1935) was a professor of Japanese at Tokyo Imperial University and one of the foremost British Japanologists active in Japan during the late 19th century. He also wrote some of the earliest translations of haiku into English.
