    1859/60: 3 d. blue, no wmk. perf. 14, the famous block of four used on 1867 cover to Birmingham, variety "Vertically Imperforate Between", with misalignment of the vertical perforations, tied in black with circular PIETERMARITZBURG / NATAL cds adjacent (June 5) and PAID / DEVONPORT / CAPE-PACKET of landing in red (July 23). Reverse with Birmingham arrival cds (July 24) in black. An astonishing block, see the Stanley Gibbons footnote regarding this cover which states "No 10a is only known from a cover of 1867 franked with two such pairs". The block is exceptional even where slightly over the edge of the envelope and the thin paper envelope with just one tiny opening tear at top. A remarkable and extremely rare cover for the connoisseur of Southern African philately. Cert.
