Recess by Henri Gillet from Perkins Bacon Plates 1854 (April): 5 c. Deep Chocolate Brown, the extraordinary and famous cover bearing two fine horizontal pairs, each with huge margins all round and the left pair showing portion of adjoining stamp at top, used on 1855 cover from Santiago to Valparaiso, well tied by seven barred target handstamps in black with SANTIAGO datestamp (May 21) below in red. Illustrated in 'Chile First Issues of Postage Stamps 1853-1867' by Gerhard Blank on colour plate 9. The pairs are in the 'true' dark chocolate shade, with a wondrous depth of colour and impression - a highlight of both South American philately and without doubt one of the most important showpieces for all Chilean philately.
