    Recess by Narciso Desmadryl from Perkins Bacon Plates 1854 (Jan-Feb): 5 c. deep reddish-brown, an astonishing block of eight (4 x 2) used on 1856 cover at 40 centavos rate for a 2 ounce letter from Santiago to Valparaiso, the block in a fresh clear shade with huge margins on three sides and just shaved at upper left, with portions of three adjoining stamps at base and crossed by file fold. SANTIAGO despatch cds in red at right (April 24). A splendid cover - the second highest recorded multiple of this stamp either on or off cover (a strip of eight on cover was in the Jean Dupont collection, lot 379).
