    Overprinted "V.R. / Transvaal" 1878 (March 20): New Printings on blue paper, 6 d. blue on blued, imperforate, optd. italic Type 7, a fine example used on July 1878 combination cover from Pretoria to Axminster, Devon cancelled by faint "1" numeral obliterator in black with faint PRETORIA / Z.A.R. / ZUID AFRIKA despatch at left. Cape of Good Hope ½ d. grey and pair of 1 d. carmine-red alongside tied by numeral "1" in bars obliterators (Gi 28+29) with 'Cape Town / Cape Colony' cds at left (July 19). Carried on the Union steamer 'Asiatic' with reverse showing Axminster arrival cds (Aug 19). Cover #48 in the Jorgensen census, slightly aged and an unusual 3½ d. under-payment of the normal 6 d. rate, found on other letters from this small correspondence, also similarly not charged due.rnrnProvenance: 'Rectangular Issues', Spink, London, 20 Sept 2007, lot 642.
