    Used Abroad 1855/57: 1 d. red, Die II, six examples used on piece, lettered QD, QF, AF-AG, BF-BG, all cancelled by four bold strikes of the rare "A88" P&O Line Mailboat obliterator in black, attributed by Brummel to "Gulf of Pe-chi-li, China Station", the 6 d. franking would have been the correct amount for an Officer's Letter; some peripheral toning but of great scarcity; also a toned pair of 1858 2 d. blue pl. 7, lettered QH-QI with central strike of the "A88" obliterator.rnrnNote: See the Spink "Mailboats" sale of March 7, 2007 (lots 1055-1065) ex the Hugh Wood collection for further examples of this cancellation used on covers, most of which unfortunately add no further insight as to where they were originally posted.
