    Recess printed by Thomas Ham 1852 (Dec 27): 'Queen on Throne' 2 d. reddish-brown, position 13 (NR), a fine large margined example used on 1853 entire letter (dated August 8) from Melbourne to the Gold Commission in Bendigo, cancelled by Gold Escort Journey Number "49" in manuscript ink, with "49" also written at left. Two file folds well away from the adhesive, a rare and extremely fine entire.rnrnProvenance: Collection J. R. W. Purves, RL, Zurich, 13 May 1981, lot 772.rnIt should be noted that the 'other' covers with Gold Escort Numbers '15' and '32' from this correspondence were also in the Purves sale (lots 770, 771) and the Rod Perry sale (lot 20005). The two earlier numbers are on covers dated March 21, 1853 and April 30, 1853 respectively.
