Lot# 4851 - Auction 218-221
1802 (July 24): Entire letter from Constantinople to Paris with mention of one of Napoleon Bonaparte's sister's in the text, mailed via Vienna and resealed with disinfection seal of Mehadia (Romania) with SANITATIS and Arms of the City in red on reverse (unrecorded). The Mails may have been diverted from the usual Semlin routing due to a local insurrection. Reverse with manuscript "arrivée en cet état à la Diréction Générale" and signed (and most probably opened by the Censor on the Austrian frontier). Struck on obverse with 'd'autriche' transit in black at Augsburg. Extremely rare and most interesting entire.
