    1836 (June 12): Entire letter from New York to the US Chargé d'Affaires in Naples, mailed with FORWARDED THROUGH / GILPIN'S EXCHANGE / READING ROOM AND / FOREIGN LETTER OFFICE / N-YORK with red cachet on reverse, carried on the 'Great Western' Steamship with BRISTOL / SHIP LETTER, circular PAID AT BRISTOL and Bristol cds (June 27) all in black with PAID SHIP LETTER / LONDON in red (June 28) at lower left with prepaid mss. rate 2/10d. in red ink. Thence via Calais (June 30), Beauvoisin and Livorno, arriving in Naples (July 13) with red cds and oval AGDP control marking and '31' grana charge due upon receipt. A rare and most unusual entire.
