    1 / 1
1857: 40 c. blue, a wonderful vertical strip of four with large margins all round, positions 41 / 49 / 57 / 65 on the sheet of 72 subjects; thus third stamp with narrow '0' in '40' (Type II), used on 1859 cover to France, tied by 'Pontremoli' datestamp (Feb) and by two further 'PD' handstamps in black. Further 'PD' below and VIA DI / SARZANA route marking in black. French 'Sardaigne-Culoz' entry marking in red (Feb 6) all on front, the reverse with Sarzana cds (Feb 3), Genova cds and Macon arrival cds (Feb 7).
