    1864 (Sept 4): Entire letter from Livorno to Cairo, Egypt franked by 1863 60 c. lilac tied by Livorno cds, mailed via Ancona (Sept 5) with framed large cartridge PIROSCAFI / POSTALI / ITALIANI in black on front. Thence via Italian P.O. in Alexandria (Sept 10) and passed to the Posta Europea service for transmission to Cairo with POSTA EUROPEA / ALESSANDRIA datestamp (Sept 11) in black. Opens well for Exhibit display, a scarce combination cover.

    1933: Crociera Nord-Atlantica, 5.25 + 44.75 l. green, red and lilac, ovpt. SERVIZIO DI STATO, tied by "TRIESTE - CAPO DI PIATTA - 29.5.33.14" cds's to large format cover (vert. fold away from the stamps) of the mayor of Trieste to the mayor of New York with Rome and Torino transdit marks. The letter is still included showing an oval arrival mark of the secretary of the New York mayor (Jun 8, 1933). This cover was not sent via mail but by error sent by ship, maybe unique. Cert.     Repubblica Sociale 1944: 'Imperial' definitive 50 l. violet with proof overprints types k, l and m in black and red of the Instituto Poligrafico in Rome, the compl. set of four values in blocks of four from the top left sheet margin with margin inscription "IL FOGLIO..", stamps unmounted og with some marginal hinge remnants. An extraordinary lot of these proofs which have a print run of only 200 examples. Several signatures on reverse, cert. Giulio Bolaffi (1950) Sassone = EUR 97'500.
