60 r. black, fine impression, two horizontal pairs used on reverse of 1844 entire letter to the U.S. Consul in Rio Grande, both pairs with large margins all round and of excellent rich colour, each pair neatly tied by 'Correio Geral Da Corte' datestamps (July 30) in black. The area around the seal has been strengthened to protect the adhesives, otherrwise a splendid and partticularly beautiful Bulls Eye cover. Cert. 1844/46: Inclinado 10 r. grey-black, block of twelve used on reverse of 1849 outer letter from Rio Grande to Rio de Janeiro, paying the 120 reis Maritime rate, the left side of the block showing the vertical marginal rule; all cancelled by circular handstamps in red. The block has been repaired as it was split on opening the letter, leaving three stamps with closed tears and reaffixed to the cover. Nevertheless a rare usage and a most attractive franking. Cert. 1850: Cats Eyes issue, the 1910 reprint from the original Plates, panes of 50 stamps, all matching examples from the upper right of the sheet, with all stamps represented 10 r., 20 r., 30 r., 60 r., 180 r. 300 r. and 600 r. (less the 90 reis value) struck in black on thick board paper. 1849 (March 24): Entire letter from Rio de Janeiro to Vechta, Saxony endorsed 'p. Louise' at top, landed in England (rated 1/4 d. in manuscript) and struck with step-type FALMOUTH / SHIP LETTER in blue displaying well on flap and London transit cds in red (June 21). 1888/1893c.: Large business covers to Zurich (32) with extraordinary frankings of 1890/91 Southern Cross issue, 1893 Mercury/Liberty Head issue or 1898 overprinted on Newspaper issue, most endorsed with Steamer names at upper left and frankings of 2'200 r., 3'200 r., 3'300 r., 4'400 r., 4'900 r., 5'100 r., 6'300 r., 6'400 r., 6'500 r., 7'700 r., 9'100 r., 9'600 r. etc., some being registered and nearly all with faults to adhesives.
