20 c. brown, fine used as single franking on 1874 cover from Iquique to Valparaiso, Chile neatly tied by large IQUIQUE / PERU datestamp (Feb 9) in black. File fold well away from adhesive, a scarce double rate usage.

20 c. brown, a fine horizontal pair used on 1878 registered cover from Huancavelica to Lima, cancelled by 'Huancavelica / Peru' cds (Jan 2) and by one of the five registration 'Flower' handstamps in black. Framed CERTIFICACION handstamp at left. Reverse with full docketing of sender and inside the cover 'Lima / Distrito' cds in blue and arrival notations of receipt (Jan 14). 20 c. brown, diagonally bisected on cover to Lima cancelled by oval framed LOMAS handstamp in black. Reverse of cover with side panel missing and closed tear at side but part 'Lima-Pral' datestamp in black as arrival. A rare usage: for a similar cover see the Rosenthal collection (Feb 1995) lot 679. 1866 issue, the mammoth Cancellation Collection on leaves, with framed handstamps many elusive markings in black, blue or red; dotted handstamps collection; used multiples, covers with 10 c. value (6) incl. registered usage from Huancavelica; 10c. block of eight used at Corongo, strip of four used at Chota, strips fo four and of five used at Trujillo, 20 c. with used pairs (3), and further cancellation study. 5 c. pale red, a used pair joined by hinge, each stamp cancelled by CALLAO datestamp dated 30-SET-1870 in black. Scarce and appealing early usage.
Note: All catalogues, Scott, Stanley Gibbons, Michel and Yvert perpetually get the date of issue of the 'Trencito' wrong. It was believed by Julio Lugon to have been issued in April 1870, possibly on April 13, certainly the stamps were printed in that month and year. Steamship / 10' arrival (Dec 17) alongside and manuscript 'Due 10' in red crayon. British P.O. 'Callao' single ring despatch on reverse (Feb 19) and British P.O. 'Panama' cds of transit on front (March 1), where placed on American Steamer with fine strike of rare oval STEAM / PANAMA at left. Handstruck '10' American Steamship rate alongside. Despite the faults a rare cover.

20 c. brown used on large part 1877 cover from Lima to Madrid, Spain tied by 'Lima Principal' cds for the double rate, franked at right with Great Britain 1870 ½ d. rose pl. 5, 1873/80 3 d. rose pl. 17, 1877 4 d. sage green pl. 15 and 1873/89 1 s. green pl. 12 (two of each value: Gi. Z28, Z35, Z39, Z54), all tied by British P.O. in Callao obliterators in black. London transit cds (Aug 29) on front in red and reverse with British P.O. Callao cds (July 28). Creasing and slightly soiled but extremely rare, especially to this destination. Cert. BPA (2009).

Z35), wing margins trimmed prior to application, tied by bold strikes of "C38" obliterators of the British P.O. in Callao (Jan 14). Black 'T' marking applied as the cover found to be above 7½ grams and taxed in manuscript '22' décimes to pay on arrival (Feb 20). A rare and most appealing cover.
