1861 (Probably issued April 1862): 4 reales dull rose-red on yellow, without District name overprint, Plate 1, the marvellous mint block of six with enormous margins all round and sheet marginal at right. Two minor horizontal creases barely perceptible on face, the block of exceptional freshness and colour and of extreme rarity - only two larger multiples exist (a block of nine in the Jaretzky collection, most probably from the same sheet and a stained defective block of nine ex the Mazepa collection). Mazatlan 4 r. dull rose-red on yellow, a horizontal strip of three, ample to large margins all round, used on 1863 entire letter to Durango, cancelled by complete strike of framed PTO. DE MAZATLAN / OCTBRE 7 handstamp (Schatzkes fig. 739) in black. Contents of the letter refer to further invoices that were enclosed and also an accident on a Diligencia. Puebla 4 r. dull rose-red on yellow, a vertical pair with large 'Puebla' District name overprint, huge margins all round with vertical marginal guideline at right, used on September 15, 1863 entire letter to Puebla tied by unframed oval TEHUACAN / FRANCO handstamp (Schatzkes fig. 1233) in black. Manuscript docketing of receipt on reverse 'Sete. 19'. This stamp is always scarce on letter but multiples from Sub-Offices are extremely uncommon and this is a wonderful and most exceptional example of this rare usage. Cert. Puebla 4 r. dull rose-red on yellow, diagonally bisected for 2 reales rate, used on 1861 entire letter to Orizava, tied by PUEBLA / OCTUBRE 5 handstamp (Schatzkes fig. 1153) in black. The entire with a couple of tiny holes in face panel well away from the adhesive at left, otherwise exceptional and extremely scarce, the usage possible for just a twelve day period in 1861. Cert. Note: Fayolle and Chapman state that bisection of the 4 reales in Puebla was for a 9 day period between September 26 and October 4, 1861. However the new invoice was only consigned on October 4 and had yet to be received.

Minor diagonal contemporary crease on stamp on application. Just 380 of the 8 reales had been received in Colima at this date. An exceptional single usage and probably one the finest known. Cert. Lagos had received two shipments at this date, totalling just 612 stamps of the ½ real, and only 200 of the 8 reales. Reverse of cover with superb strike of oval framed Stagecoach handstamp DILIGS. Mazatlan 8 r. black on red-brown, a fine vertically bisected example showing part vertical guideline at left, used as 4 reales and tied to September 28, 1861 cover to Puerto de Mazatlan by bold strike of wreathed FRANCO / EN / CULIACAN handstamp (Schatzkes fig. 760) in black. At this date Mazatlan had received 1'000 stamps of the 8 reales (the previous shipment being lost in transit), the stock of just 660 of the 4 reales having been exhausted. It is interesting to note that the voluminous sale of the Erich Koenig 'Splits' had no example of a bisected usage from Mazatlan. An extremely fine and rare Sub-Office franking. Cert. Morelia 8 r. black on red-brown, single example, marginal horizontal pair and vertical pair from the top left hand corner of the sheet showing vertical and horizontal guidelines, used with creased 1 r. black on green horizontal pair on large blue piece of cover. The stamps, all with District name overprint, are applied over 'Juzgado de la Instancia' Eagle cachet and tied by three strikes of two line FRANCO EN / PAZCUARO handstamps (Schatzkes fig. 962) in black. The 1 r. pair with contemporary scissor cut on one stamp but an extraordinary usage showing a 42 reales rate. In all probability unique. Cert. Jaretzky (1987).

Puebla 8 r. black on red-brown and 4 r. dull red-rose on yellow, fine four margined examples, the latter with slight contemporary crease on application; used on July 28, 1862 cover from Puebla to Vera Cruz, tied by oval ADMON. PRAL DE CORREOS / PUEBLA handstamp (Schatzkes fig. 1152A) in black. The cover handstamped at top with large '12' in black as, at this date, Puebla was under the control of the Liberal Juaristas. When the letter 'Crossed the Lines', even though Vera Cruz used the same stamps, it was not recognised as fully paid and was again charged 12 reales Postage Due by the Conservatives. Extremely rare high franking and a great rarity of the issue, unique. Cert. Jaretzky (1987).

The edge of cover with circular handstamps denoting registration (Schatzkes fig. 1153A) and two line CERTIFICACION A PUEBLA / SALIO EN 24 de Julio de 1862 (Schatzkes fig. 1164) above. A remarkable 38 reales three colour franking, Puebla had only received 2'400 of the 4 reales and 980 of the 8 reales at this date. The cover fits on a standard Exhibition page, reverse with manuscript notation of receipt (July 26) and oval Lotteria Nacional handstamp in black. Saltillo 8 r. black on red-brown, an enormous large margined example without District name overprint with vertical guideline at left, used on 1861 registered front of cover to Matamoros tied by oval framed ADMON. PRAL DE CORREOS / SALTILLO handstamp (Schatzkes fig. 1355) struck in black (June 24). The front surrounded by six strikes of the oval CERTIFI / CADO registered handstamp (Schatzkes fig. 1360, unrecorded on this issue) and fine framed CERTIFICACION AL SALTILLO / SALIO EN 22 Junio 1861 handstamp (Schatzkes fig. 1352) with manuscript date, well struck in black. Manuscript 'Monterey Junio 24, 1861' at right and reverse with notation of receipt at Matamoros on July 1, 1861. By this date just 280 of the 8 reales had been sent to Saltillo on the first shipment. A marvellous and truly beautiful cover.
