    1849: 10 c. brown, a horizontal strip of four used on 1850 cover from Brussels (Aug 10) to Mons with margins all round and just touched at upper left. The cover endorsed '26½'  but the original endorsement mis-read as '20½' grams and accepted, however this was noticed by the receiving Postal Clerk in Mons (Aug 11 cds in red on reverse) and the cover endorsed "Détaxée" and "5" in manuscript to collect. Balasse Magazine article (1977) accompanies the lot. An attractive and rare cover.

Napoleon 40 c. orange (3) and 80 c. rose (3) giving the double weight rate of 360 c. to Peru, tied by dotted numeral mark "1495" with red BUREAU MARITIME HAVRE cds's alongside, endorsed "S. Atrato" referencing to the steam service by the R.M.S.P. steamer S.S. Atrato to Chagres Panama, carried overland across the isthmus (Panama transit cds July 23) and furtheron via Pacific Steamship Company to Lima. All three 40 c. stamps touched by horizontal archive fold, some minor faults in addition but an exceedingly rare cover with a fine appearance.

Very rare three colour Bordeaux issue usage, also note the time taken between Nice and London due to the turbulent state of Paris just after the Siege-usually a two day journey, this cover taking nine days.     Ballon monté 1870 (Sept 23): Entire letter addressed to La Côte St. André, carried on Ballon Monté 'La Ville de Florence' franked by 1863 20 c. blue tied by Paris Star 1 with Place de la Bourse cds alongside. Reverse with La Côte St. André arrival (Sept 28) cds. Some ageing around perfs. but a very rare Ballon.

    1870 (Oct 3): Postcard  carried on Ballon Monté 'Armand Barbes' franked by 1863 10 c. bistre tied by Paris/Place de la Madeleine' datestamp and Paris Star, mailed to Périguex, Dordogne. No backstamp but very fine, postcards sent by Ballon being very scarce.
