    Postmaster Provisional New York 1845: 5 c. black on blueish wove paper, touched at upper right, otherwise good margins all round and sheet margin at right, initialed 'ACM' in magenta ink (partially removed) and cancelled by black penstrokes on folded circular (July 31, 1845) with NEW YORK 5 PAID JUL 31 cds in red alongside, endorsed 'str. Brittannia', London transit in red (Aug 16) on reverse, French framed 'Colonies etc. Art. 12' and entry cds ANGL. BOULOGNE 18 AOUT 1845 in red alongside, Paris transit and Marseille arrival (Aug 21) cds's on reverse. The cover was taxed with 21 Décimes for the journey from New York harbor to Marseille as the Postmaster Provisional paid just to the steamer. Address partly altered, second earliest known example of the rarest use of a New York Postmaster Provisional, i.e. from New York to Europe. A fine cover. Cert.     St. Louis 'Bear'. 1846: 5 c. black on grey lilac paper, used example with large margins on three sides and imperceptibly touched at upper left corner, slight ironed diagonal crease, cancelled in manuscript and by part red circular datestamp.     1852: 1 c. blue (Type IV), two huge margined examples, uncancelled on 1856 Printed Circular endorsed "Str. Quaker City", mailed to Lille and charged '15 c.' to pay on receipt, reverse with Lille arrival cds (March 6). The Steamer "Quaker City" made just one single round-trip Transatlantic journey for the Collins Line, departing New York on February 16 and arriving in Liverpool on March 1. She replaced the 'Pacific' which was lost, believed to have hit an iceberg with the loss of all passengers and crew, as after leaving Liverpool on 23 January 1856 she was never heard of again. One of the rarest of all Transatlantic crossings and a most attractive cover. Signed A. Diena.

    Centennial World Exhibition, Philadelphia 1876: Covers (4 and a letter) with 1 c. blue used on imprinted 'International Exhibition, Philadelphia' envelope; Commemorative 3 c. green stationery envelope with typed address and complete original letter (using a Remington, the first type writer in the world and headed 'Machinery Hall') mailed to New York and cancelled "Centennial / Philadelphia" (June 14); further letter from the Machinery Hall (also typed) sent as a momento on Oct. 6, 1876; illustrated 'Atlas Hotel' envelope with notice '100 yards to Exhibition' used with 3 c. green cancelled "Centennial / Philadelphia", and a cover headed 'On Her Majesty's Service' and 'Commissioners for Victoria' franked by 3 c. green cancelled "Centennial / Philadelphia". A scarce and interesting group.
