    1845 (Feb 10): Official entire letter from Yalla Le Pourra addressed to Melbourne, registered and rated '10d.' in manuscript (for a distance of between 121 and 170 miles), struck on reverse with "FIERY CREEK / ♛ / PORT PHILIP" in brown ink (Feb 12) - an early usage as the Post Office opened on 1 Sept 1844 - with oval "MELBOURNE / ♛ / PORT PHILIP" arrival (Feb 14, date slugs inverted) also in black. Fiery Creek wasd renamed 'Steatham' on 1 January 1854. Rewverse with Melbourne arrival (May 9). A fine usage.rnrnNote: Leongatha was a Labour Colony built to house, clothe and feed working men during the depression of the 1890's. Most could be called questionable Social experiments that verged on social engineering, but were run on charitable lines.
