1866: Uruguay, 30 cts. brown-lilac, with France, Napoléon, 80 cts. carmine, used on cover, from MONTEVIDEO (Uruguay) to VILASAR (Barcelona, Spain), 30 cts. tied by heavy barred cancel in black, the 80 cts. by the French Post Office lozenge with anchor, a black boxed 'P.P.' and octagonal datestamp alongside (15 April 1866), also a red 'PD' to left side, to reverse a Barcelona arrival datestamp in black (20 May 1866), sent through the French Consular service in Montevideo, one of the 80 cts. has a fault, there are two glue discoloured strips to either sides, otherwise fine, a rare mixed combination franking.Ausruf : 360 CHFZuschlag : nicht verkauftLosnr. : 7519 Mexiko
1867: Hidalgo, 12 cts. black on green, used on cover front, from VERACRUZ (Mexico) to LANESTOSA (Spain), four good margins, tied by Veracruz (Franco) datestamp in black (11 Jan 1871) with an octagonal 'VERA-CRUZ/PAQ.FR.**' alongside oddly dated 1870, also has a boxed 'P.P.' in red, a horizontal filing crease clear of adhesive, a fine front and scarce single franking example from Mexico to Spain.Ausruf : 240 CHFZuschlag : nicht verkauftLosnr. : 7521 Mexiko
1867: Napoléon laureated 80 c. rose, a fresh and fine example with good perforation, on entire letter from Mexico via Havana to Madrid, the superb single adhesive tied by claer Anchor lozenge, "MEXIQUE 17 AOUT 72" in black and "VERA-CRUZ 17 AOUT 72 PAQ. FR. B No. 1" in red, two octagonal datestamps alongside, as well as framed "P.P." in black, all strikes in an over-average shape. Upon arrival "1 PESETA" due struck in addition. 1877: Napoleon, 5 fr. blue-grey, and Sage, 1 fr. olive, combined with Mexico, Hidalgo, 10 cts. black, 25 cts. blue, 100 cts. red-pink and block of four and a single Porte de Mar 50 cts black (block torn on opening), used on cover, from MÉXICO D.F. to MADRID, French Post Office in Mexico, dated 17 August, an incredibly combination, the only known cover with 5 fr. used from Mexico (only four used in Americas), the cover is also the highest franking of the Porte de Mar issue and the only cover with the 50 cts. value, this franking is unique and the only recorded example. The most important cover of Mexican maritime mail prior to UPU and one the most outstanding item of Mexican Maritime philately. 1864/67: Rivadavia, 5 cts. brown rose, used on cover, from ROSARIO (Argentina) to ALGORTA (Spain), tied by black Correos De Rosario datestamp, sent 28 June 1865, with CORREOS DE BUENOS AIRES datestamp in black alongside (28 June 1865), also a black 'ADMON DE CAMBIO BADAJOZ/4Rs' circular, on reverse a blue 'P.TRANSATLANTICO' (30 July 1865), Buenos Aires datestamp in black (28 June 1865) and Badajoz double circle (1 Aug 1865), stamp has trimmed perfs to two sides, filing crease horizontally clear of stamp, a rare single franking cover sent via the British mail from South America to Europe.Ausruf : 400 CHFZuschlag : 400 CHFLosnr. : 7535 Uruguay
1866: Numerals, 20 cts. rose, two singles, used on Registered cover, from MONTEVIDEO (Uruguay) to SALDUERO (Spain), tied by framed rectangular 'CERTIFCADO' in blue, cover dated 16 November 1870, with '4R' Spanish due mark in red, to the reverse a Montevideo datestamp in black and a blue 'P.TRANSATLANTICO' dated 11 Dec 1870, filing crease well clear of stamps, which apart from touching just one corner are four margins, a rare Registered cover and attractive franking.Ausruf : 300 CHFZuschlag : 420 CHFLosnr. : 7536 Uruguay
1866/67: Numerals, 10 cts. green, used on Registered cover, from SALTO (Uruguay) to GURIEZO (Spain), tied by black barred cancel, faint Salto datestamp 12 Nov 1872, also a 'CORREO MONTEVIDEO' datestamp alongside (18 Jan 1872) has a '3R' Spanish due mark in black, there is a tear in the cover top and some toning to stamp and parts of cover, a scarce single use on cover from South America to Europe.Ausruf : 200 CHFZuschlag : nicht verkauftLosnr. : 7537 Argentinien
1873: 1 c. purple and 4 c. brown, used on cover, from BUENOS AIRES (Argentina) to HAVANA (Cuba), via SPAIN - making a double crossing of Atlantic Ocean - stamps tied by '4' in circle with Buenos Aires datestamp alongside (30 May 1878), 1.Pesto charge mark in blue applied on arrival in Badajoz (28 Jun 1873) and '3' struck in black applied when arrived in Cuba, having gone via British sea route by steamer to Lisbon and by land to Badajoz, then by ship to Cuba, an incredible journey, and probably a unique example.Ausruf : 1.200 CHFZuschlag : 2.200 CHFLosnr. : 7538 Uruguay
1866: Numerals 5 c. blue, two fine examples with the normal irregular perforation, together with France Napoléon laureated 80 c. on cover to Valencia, all three adhesives tied by light framed PD. Reverse with "P. TRANSATLANTICO 25 / 1 73" datestamp in violet struck on incoming shipmail in Lisbon as well as BADAJOZ transit cds. Taxed in Spain with "1 PESETAS." due handstamp in blue. Strong toning and horizontal crease well away from the franking, nevertheless a most interesting item with French vessel to Portugal and from there to its destination in Spain.rnNote: The colour of the TRANSATLANTICO datestamp gives an indication which shipping company brought the cover to Portugal. 1866: Numerals 10 c. green (lightest file fold), a fresh example on cover to Barcelona, the adhesives tied by light mute obliterator, "CORREO MONTEVIDEO 15 SET 73" despatch cds alongside. Reverse with "P. TRANSATLANTICO 12 / 10 73" datestamp in blue struck on incoming shipmail in Lisbon as well as BARCELONA arrival (Oct 18) cds. Taxed in Spain with "1 PESETAS." due handstamp in blue. An interesting item with British vessel to Portugal and from there to its destination in Spain.rnNote: The colour of the TRANSATLANTICO datestamp gives an indication which shipping company brought the cover to Portugal. 1875: Cuba, Coat of Arms, 50 c. green two singles, with USA Jefferson, 10 c. brown four singles and Post Horse and Rider 2 c. brown, used on cover, from HAVANA (Cuba) to BARCELONA, via NEW YORK (USA) and PRUSSIA (Germany), sent 13 Feb 1875 (endorsed) from Havana to New York (presumably privately as the 1 peseta rate not used) where USA postage applied, stamps tied by New York Steamship datestamp (18 Feb) and sent via Transatlantic route which was in operation for a short period, an incredibly rare cover, sent at 42 cents rate franked with the Cuba 1 peseta, delightful example; from the Francisco Cuadrada archive.Ausruf : 4.500 CHFZuschlag : 4.600 CHFLosnr. : 7637 USA
1875: Cuba, Coat of Arms, 50 c. green two singles, with USA Jefferson, 10 c. brown six singles and Post Horse and Rider 2 c. brown, used on cover, from HAVANA (Cuba) to BARCELONA, via NEW YORK (USA) and PRUSSIA (Germany), sent 17 Feb 1875 (endorsed) from Havana to New York (presumably privately) where USA postage applied, stamps tied by undated fancy circular, with New York paid in red dated 23 Feb, 50 c. greens cancelled by indistiguishable datestamp which appears to indicate 12 April presumably on arrival in Spain, a spectacular cover, sent at 62 cents rate, franked in combination with the Cuba 1 peseta, exceptional example; from the Francisco Cuadrada archive.rnrnProvenance: Collection Helmut Wolff, Harmers, Ney York, 17 Jan 1980, lot 2068.Ausruf : 7.500 CHFZuschlag : 7.500 CHFLosnr. : 7647 Argentinien
1858: Steamship, 2 ps. indigo blue, used on cover, from BUENOS AIRES (Argentina) to SALINAS (Asturias, Spain), tied by black ponchito cancel, with Correos De Buenos Aires circular datestamp (20 Dec 1858), Spanish postage due handstamp '4R.' in blue, soiling and some imperfections, however an exceptionally rare example of an Argentine steamship stamp used on cover to Spain, one of three known to Europe, highly desirable.Ausruf : 5.000 CHFZuschlag : 6.500 CHFLosnr. : 7648 Venezuela
1863: First Issue, 2 r. dull rose, used on cover, from CARACAS to CADIZ (Spain), four good to large margins, tied by black Caracas postmark, endorsed 'via England' (via de Inglaterra), with black '8R' Spanish charge mark, London transit in red (3 Oct 1859) and Cadiz arrival in black (10 Oct 1859) on reverse, a vertical filing crease not affecting stamp, a rare single franking from South America to Europe with very fine condition First Issue, rare with such large margins. 1858: Coat of Arms 1 r. red, double-lined frame, a fine example with fresh colour and good to large margins, on cover to Bilbao, tied by dotted LIMA circle handstamp with French "ANGL. 20 JUIL. 59 AMB CALAIS A" entry cds and GB contract handstamp alongside. Reverse with LONDON and PARIS transit and BILBAO arrival (July 24) cds's. Taxed in Spain with "4 R." due handstamp in blue. 1861: Jefferson, 5 c. red-brown, used on cover, from NEW YORK to BILBAO (Spain), neatly tied by attractive red lined oval, 'NEW YORK:BR.PKT. 1863: First Issue, 2 r. dull rose, used on cover, from LA GUAIRA to SAN SEBASTIAN (Spain), cut into in places, tied by CORREOS/LA GUAIRA double circle in blue (23 March), with red '4R' Spanish charge mark, London transit in red (13 April 1863) and arrival in black (15 April 1863) to the back, two vertical filing creases one just impinging on lower left corner of adhesive although unaffected, some soiling, however a rare single franking from South America to Europe using a First Issue stamp. 1863/64: Eagle, 2 r. green, used on cover, from LA GUAIRA to PAMPLONA (Spain), cut into in places, tied by CORREOS/LA GUAIRA double circle in black (8 March), with red '4R' Spanish due mark alongside, endorsed top 'Via England', on the reverse a Pamelona arrival datestamp in black (1 April 1864), there is a diagonal crease which has bent the bottom right corner of the stamp, also a vertical filing crease clear of the adhesive, a scarce cover to Spain. 1864: Escuditos 6 c. brick-red, a fine and fresh example with vibrant colour and even large margins all round, on cover to Saron, Cantabria, tied by light "CORREO MONTEVIDEO 10 FEB 65" cds. Reverse with MONTEVIDEO cds of the British P.P., red LONDON and black "VILLACARRIEDO / SANTANDER" transit cds's. Taxed in Spain with "8 Rs" due handstamp. PKT JAN 18" cds in red and "PAID ONLY TO ENGLAND" handstamp in black alongside. Reverse with "LONDON transit (Jan 28) and BILBAO arrival (Feb 1) cds's. 1869-71: Liberty Cap on Mountain, 5 cts. black and 25 cts. green, used on cover, from CHINANDEGA (Nicaragua) to MADRID (Spain), tied by black cancel, with blue double circle 'CORREOS DE MANAGUA' alongside (12 Oct 1881), British Post Office 'PANAMA' datestamp in black (20 Oct 1881), two Spanish charge marks 'M/1P' and 'M/0,20' in violet, addressed to Fernades Duro, philatelic writer of the time, Secretary General of the International Congress, London transit on reverse in red (11 Nov 1881) and a Madrid arrival the date indistinguishable, a very fine cover, extremely rare, more so to Spain with such a combination of rare stamps.
