    Overprinted on India at the Zanzibar Gazette 1895/96: India 2 a. 6 p. yellow-green overprinted, a used example showing variety "Brit1sh" for British, neatly cancelled by LAMU code A squared circle datestamp (Feb 16, 1896) in black. The sole recorded example used in Lamu. Extremely rare, this error was corrected almost immediately after the first printing and its sheet position is uncertain, see "British East Africa" by John Minns, pages 70-71. Just three examples are recorded therein, one of which is housed in the collection of His Majesty King Charles III. Unique. Cert.     Overprinted on India at the Zanzibar Gazette 1895/96: India 3 r. brown & green overprinted, an unused example of excellent colour showing variety "Slanting "B" in British", fresh and fine, large part og. The slanting "B" variety is the initial state of "Double B, one slanting". It appears that the "B" in British failed to print due to loose type, the "B" having fallen out of the overprint forme. The "B" here probably applied by hand but in a slanting position (the 5 r. value was later corrected by the application of a further "B" in the upright position. That the two varieties occur in the same position can be confirmed by the constant variety "Broken left foot to the "A" of Africa.
