Handstruck " ♛ / FREE" in blue with "FREEMANTLE / WESTERN AUSTRALIA" despatch cds in black (Feb 13). John Bruce arrived on 25 Oct 1850 on the "Hashemy" as Staff Officer to the Pensioner Force sent as guards to the new settlement, in 1861 he took control of the new Colonial voulnteer force.
