1851/57: 3 d. bright blue, a horizontal strip of three with third stamp diagonally bisected, margins large to touched all round, of fine colour, used on 1860 cover from Halifax to Paris endorsed "per R.M.Steamer", all tied by three strikes of 'H' in bars obliterator in black; prepaying the 7½ d. rate to Great Britain. Reverse with HALIFAX / NOVA SCOTIA datestamp in black (Sept 20), carried on the Cunard "America" arriving at Liverpool on September 30th. Struck in London (Oct 1) with framed "GB / 2F.-" accountancy marking (10d. British credit) and thence via Calais (Oct 1) to Paris where charged '20' décimes due in manuscript for a double weight letter (above 7½ and under 15 grams). The addressee's name partially erased not detracting from the appearance of a spectacular cover to a rare destination for classic Nova Scotian mail, believed unique. Cert. 1860/63: 5 c. blue on yellowish paper and 12½ c. black on white paper (Scott 10+13), used on 1863 envelope from Halifax to Paris (Butterfield correspondence) endorsed "per Cunard Steamer", cancelled in manuscript and by barred obliterators wiht "HALIFAX NOVA SCOTIA" cds of despacth on reverse (Feb 5) in black. Carried by Stamer "Arabia" with framed "GB / 1F 60 c." accountancy marking in black applied in London (Feb 16), thence via Calais and charged with '16' décimes due in manuscript for a double weight letter (above 7½ and under 15 grams). Overpaid ½ c. for the 17 cents rate, a wonderful and extremely rare cover for the connoisseur. Cert.
