1884 (Feb 29): 1 d. red, three used examples on the famous 1885 cover to Kingston, Canada, in combination with Cape of Good Hope 1 d. rose-red in a block of twelve (6 x 2), the Stellaland adhesives cancelled "Vryburg / 26-6-85 / Stellaland / J.W. Eaton, Postmaster" in violet crayon manuscript with the Cape block cancelled by five strikes of the BARKLY / G.W. datestamps (27 June) in black, both the Cape and Stellaland adhesives also being cancelled by the Canadian arrival datestamp (Aug 3) in black. Reverse with minor flap fault and small cover tear of no significance, "2½d." credit marking in red, Cape Town cds, London transit cds in red (July 21) and Kingston arrival cds (Aug 3) in black. An outstanding cover - the sole recorded usage of Stellaland stamps being tied to a cover by a cancellation other than a manuscript usage, the sole recorded usage of a Stellaland multiple franking and the sole recorded Stellaland cover to a destination outside Africa. A wonderful cover, initially found by the late E.W.Proud. See the article in the 'London Philatelist', March 1992 on page 101:58, this being cover #6 of the 13 listed in the Dr. Drysdall census. A major exhibition item of South African Postal History. Cert.
