1850: Carta a mano 5 c. yellow-ochre in a horizontal pair, a fresh and fine multiple with vivid colour and good to large margins all round, reverse of the pair shows distinct upside-down offset of a complete and two half St. Andrew's Crosses as well as small parts of three stamps, cancelled with two-line straight "PADOVA / 7. 1850: Carta a mano 5 c. yellow, 30 c. brown type II and 45 c. blue type II, one 45 c. adhesive with fair margin at left, otherwise margins good to huge all round, tied by "MANTOVA 28 / 8" cds with day slug inverted to envelope directed to Paris. "P.D.", "VIA DEGLI STATI SARDI" postal treaty handstamp and French "AUTR. PT. DE BEAUVOISIN 1 SEPT 55" entry cds, all in red on obverse, reverse with arrival cds (Sept 1). Minor edge wear not distracting from this fine and fresh three colour franking paying correctly the rate to France with 45 c. for Austria, 20 c. for the transit through Sardinia and 60 c. for France. 1850: Carta a mano 45 c. blue type I in a block of 16 adhesives, an enormous multiple with fair to large margins, each stamp cancelled with "BERGAMO 27 / 10" (1854) cds. Some patina, nevertheless an exceptional piece, the largest multiple known, signed E. Diena & H. C. Schwenn; cert. Sorani (2001) Sassone = € 60'000 for two strips of eight / Ferchenbauer = € 45'000 for two strips of eight.rnReference: The multiple is shown in Jerger - Allgemeine Frankaturen on page 94, when it was still attached together with two other blocks of 16 to a large sized registered cover from Bergamo to Rome. Usage of revenue stamps instead of postal definitives 1854: Cover from Cadore to Venezia, franked with fiscals 15 s. black & green, printed in typography, normal perforation, cancelled together by "CADORE / 27. OTT." two line datestamp, reverse with Milano arrival cds (Oct. 29).
