MARC handstamp in black (Jamet #7, early usage) and rated '1E' (escalin) due on arrival. Reverse flap opens for display with manuscript 'Par le navire 'L'Orthésien de Bordeaux, Capt. 1848: Entire letter from Gonaives to Bordeaux struck on despatch with superb negative GONAIVES / PAYÉ oval handstamp in black. British P.O. "JACMEL" double arc cds on reverse (Nov 8) and sent unpaid. London transit on reverse (Dec 4) in red and struck there with 'COLONIES / &c. ART.13' handstamp in red. Charged '20' decimes due upon delivery. 1889: Cover from Cap Haitien to St. Thomas endorsed 'per Ville de St. Nazaire', struck on despatch with 'Cap Haitien / Haiti' provisional 'Rebellion' circular negative "HAITI / POSTES / CAP HAITIEN" handstamp in black (to denote payment of 15 c.). Struck with octagonal French Paquebot 'LIGNE F / PAQ. FR. No. 1' in black (Aug 16) with reverse showing 'St. Thomas' Danish P.O. cds (Aug 22). File fold but an attractive and scarce cover.
