1648 (Oct. 17): Joao IV King of Portugal (1604-1656), King's letter written in Alcantara (Lisbon) and signed 'Rey', entire lettersheet with waver wax seal addressed to A. Ruy Governador das Armas da Provincia de Trallosmontes (Tras-os-Montes 'behind the mountains') located in the northeastern corner of the country. Transcription of complete portuguese text attached. A fine, historical document.
