    1864 (March 26): Cover from Alexandria to Malmö, Sweden endorsed "Betalt" (Paid) with manuscript '1/5d.' prepaid; ALEXANDRIA datestamp in red (March 26), mailed via London where struck with 'London / Paid' datestamp (April 7) and oval 'PD' in red and thence via Danish P.O. in Hamburg (April 9) to Malmö. A most unusual destination for Egyptian pre-stamp mail.

    1877 (Feb 9): Great Britain 1876/79 2½ d. mauve pl. 6 and 1876 4 d. vermilion pl. 15 used on 1877 registered cover from Alexandria to Malta tied by two strikes of the "BO1" obliterator with oval "REGISTERED / ALEXANDRIA" datestamp (Feb 9) in red at left. 'London / Paid' arrival cds (July 14) in red at left. File fold away from the adhesives, a fresh and fine entire.

    1871 (Aug 10): Combination cover from Cairo to Plymouth with Egypt 1867 1 pi. red, two examples (Gi. 14) tied by "V.R. Poste Egiziane / Cairo" datestamps in black (Aug 10) for internal double rate, forwarded from Alexandria with Great Britain 1865/73 4 d. vermilion pl. 12 in a horizontal pair (single rate) tied by faint "BO1" obliterator and by 'Alexandria' cds (Aug 12) in black.     1868 (July 18): Great Britain 1867 6 d. lilac pl. 6, a horizontal pair used on 1868 cover from Alexandria to London endorsed 'With the English Steamer', tied by three strikes of the "BO1" obliterator with 'Alexandria' despatch datestamp below in black. Scarce early usage of two line "POSTED AFTER / DEPARTURE OF PACKET" instructional marking at left in black. 'London / Paid' arrival in red (Aug 1). Overall soiling but a rare cover.     1877 (Oct 21): Great Britain 1870 ½ d. pl. 6 and 1864/79 1 d. red pl. 198 in a horizontal pair used on 1877 cover from Suez to Ireland endorsed 'via Brindisi' tied by three strikes of the "BO2" obliterator with SUEZ cds alongside (Oct 21). Reverse with crest of the 'Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Co.' and fine 'Dublin & Belfast / R.P.O.' datestamp alongside Lismaskea arrival (Oct 29). Slightest of aging but most attractive.

    1866 (Sept 15): Combination usage to Soerabaja, Netherlands East Indies: Saxony 5 ngr. violet postal stationery envelope endorsed 'via Triest', up-rated with ½ ngr. orange, 1 ngr. red and 5 ngr. lilac, two examples (Michel U19A+15a+16+19), all tied by fine strikes of circular "11" network obliterators in black with corresponding ALTENBURG datestamp (Sept 15) at left paying the 16½ ngr. rate via Triest with weiterfranko '13½' rate in blue crayon. Great Britain 1865 1 s. green applied at upper right and tied by "BO1" obliterator in black with corresponding ALEXANDRIA datestamp (Sept 25) alongside. Reverse with oval 'Triest' transit (Sept 18), double ring SINGAPORE datestamp in red and 'Soerabaija' arrival datestamp (Nov 7) in red.     1866 (July 27): Combination cover from Triest to Canton, China: Austria Arms 1864 issue 2 kr. yellow, 5 kr. rose-red and two singles and a vertical pair of 15 kr. brown, perf. 9½, (Michel 30+32+34) all tied by oval framed "Triest" datestamps (27/7) in black, to cover endorsed 'per Overland Mail', additionally franked for onward transmission with Great Britain 1865 1 s. green pl. 4 cancelled by "BO1" obliterator, unusually the stamp being applied over the sender's cachet and not the Austrian adhesives. Slight patch in wrapper on ALEXANDRIA cds (Aug 3) and the reverse with HONG KONG transit cds (Sept 3) in black. Reverse with Malta arrival cds. Slight closed cover tear at top but a delightful and scarce cover.     1873 (March 31): Great Britain 1865 4 d. vermilion and 1867 2 s. deep blue in a remarkable vertical strip of three used on 1873 quadruple rate cover from Suez to Grahams Town, Cape of Good Hope, endorsed 'via Brindisi & London' tied by four strikes of the "BO2" obliterator with SUEZ datestamp below (March 31) in black. Cape Town transit also on front and reverse with London transit cds (April 7) in red and 'Grahams Town / Cape of Good Hope' arrival cds (May 8). A splendid and extremely rare franking: the sole usage of the 2 shilling value in a multiple on cover that this describer has recorded and a key Exhibition piece of Great Britain used in Egypt.     1863 (Aug 26): Great Britain 1862 3 d. rose and 9 d. straw used on 'Telegraph to India Company, Limited / Telegram / Dispatched from Jubal Island' envelope from Suez to Bombay, each tied by neat strikes of the the "BO2" obliterator in black. Faint SUEZ despatch cds at right (Aug 26) and full unsevered flap showing the charges for Telegrams. The 3d. with rounded corner perf. but a very rare make up of the 1 shilling rate, believed unique, and most attractive.     Arabi Revolt 1882 (Oct 17): Great Britain 1881 2½ d. blue pl. 22 used on cover to Bristol tied by 'retta' handstamp in black with 'Alexandrie / Depart' cds at left in black (Oct 17). Mailed from 'HMS Thalia' with imprint of same on reverse, just ten days after the British withdrew the Military Postal service; sold together with a fine quayside photograph of the HMS Thalia taken in 1882.
